1987 Tolkien Calendar - Ballantine
1987. Ballantine. The 1987 J. R. R. Tolkien Calendar. ISBN: 0-345-33585-6. 11.5 x 12in. This calendar has the same artwork as the Unwin Paperbacks calendar of the same year. It is clear when comparing these two calendars that many of the images were cropped to fit into the format used for the calendar. This resulted in a very different image for Alan Lee's Minas Tirith in the Ballantine calendar. The designer cropped out essentially half the picture, including the only figure in the image. This is presumably Pippin looking out over a parapet on the left side. Various sections are cropped out of both calendars. The Unwin Paperbacks calendar appears to have most of the complete images.
