A Middle English Vocabulary

This is Tolkiens earliest professional publication. It is a vocabulary that was used as a supplement to Fourteenth Century Verse and Prose by Sisam. First published in 1922. There were printing variations and later impressions. This is a copy of the third printing that I found at Thorntons of Oxford, sitting in the window. Although thousands of copies were printed, it is a paperbound volume that probably did not hold up and was likely discarded after the course was completed. It was eventually bound into SisamÕs book.
