J R R Tolkien: Life and Legend

Published by the Bodleian Library for the Centenary of Tokliens birth. 1992. Includes approximately 100 photographs and illustrations. Many in color. Some of these have only appeared in this book. A very high quality production. The book is essentially a biography in which Tolkiens life story is told using the museum exhibits. Most of the exhibits are included as photographs in the book. Unfortunately not all the items described are pictured. The book was intended as a guide for a walking tour of the exhibit. As a result, many item descriptions have no associated picture and it is difficult to imagine the object from the brief description given in teh guide. Since this catalog described so many rare Tolkien items, it is required reading for any fan or collector.
