1979 Tolkien Calendar - Allen & Unwin

Allen & Unwin. 1979. The J. R. R. Tolkien Calendar 1979. 11 7/8 x 15 1/8. The top was spiral bound with a cut-out and loop for hanging. Artwork by Tolkien, some colored by H. E. Riddett. Cover photo by Billet Potter. This calendar has a number of Tolkien's sketches and incomplete works. It Includes his newspaper doodles and tree sketches. In particular, this calendar features works that were stongly influenced by the William Morris style of decorative arts that Tolkien enjoyed. The border decoration using repetitive animal and plant forms, or even small landscapes, is a decorative feature that Tolkien apparently enjoyed making. Many of his trees, flowers and birds are an extension of this interest and could easily be incorporated into border designs. Many rely on radial symmetry for their effects and this makes them interesting as border designs. The second image included here depicts border designs based on insect forms. These were constructed by Henri Gillet (Album de la Decoration, Plate 47).

THE SWORD OF EOWYN

A very high quality, beautiful sword. This would make a great decorative gift for the shield maiden in your life, or someone who just loves equestrian design.

LORD OF THE RINGS JEWELRY

Now that the movies have largely run their merchandising course, this may be the best time to purchase high quality jewelry at discounted prices. Use these as gifts for years to come.

LORD OF THE RINGS GAMES!

It appears that any game that could possibly have a Lord of the Rings theme has been produced. These include Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Backgammon and Dominoes.

LORD OF THE RINGS FIGURES

Figures from the movies include a large action figure series. There are separate figure sets and color schemes for each movie. The highest quality figures were made by Sideshow WETA. Although these are expensive, they sell out quickly and will likely keep their values.
